  Welcome to the LOCOST phenomenon!

A dream brought about by the original hardback bestselling book BUILD YOUR OWN SPORTS CAR FOR AS LITTLE AS £250 takes building a kit car to a new dimension. We all dream of driving along an open road in a two seater sports car, wind blowing through our hair and all eyes on us, but without the super car price tag. Although £250 is a bit unrealistic, MAKE NO MISTAKE, you can build a car just as good, or even better than most other Lotus 7 based kit cars on the market.

The Locost manual released as a second edition in colour has such a popular following that there is a booming Locost car club and a MSA approved race series. Building a Locost soon becomes such a high! it can take over your mind. But don't worry! You can build as much or as little as your skills allow. There is a rich vein of suppliers out there for any parts you do not feel qualified to make. If you know your stuff with metalwork and can handle a welder, you can make your own Locost chassis from the drawings in the book, which are developed from the original Lotus 7 from 1957 - 1972. An endless list of donor cars for your project allows you infinite drive options, as economical or as powerful as you desire. Stretch your imagination and choose from an endless variety of materials and finishes and make your Locost a Super car.

The Locost bug is swarming, so an endless stream of help and advice is available to you. Talk to people, join the Locost club, and go watch one of the racing series races. Friendly people, always willing to help you, and of course, always proud to show you their creation. Who knows, perhaps soon somebody will be begging to copy your idea's. A small piece of advice from me to think about early in your build. Your car when completed will have to pass an SVA test. This Single Vehicle Approval test has a set of specifications for your safety which your Locost will have to comply with. It is a good idea to learn as much as you can and build your car to meet these specifications. Perhaps buy a second-hand SVA test booklet from another builder after his build. IF YOU LIKE THE IDEA of building and driving your own dream car, please feel free to use my other pages for Ideas, Information and help. A picture paints a thousand words, so check out the images online to help your mind explode with ideas.
